How to Grow Monkey Puzzle Tree

Transcript

Hi this is Yolanda Vanveen with howtogardenvideos.com and in this segment we’re going to talk about one of my favorite trees in the world, the monkey-puzzle tree. I love the monkey-puzzle tree. It’s really sharp, you cannot touch it at all and it likes full sun or part shade as long as it’s in a pretty warm place and really good drainage.

They do really well in the northwest but they don’t like to freeze to hard like on the eastern side of Washington or Oregon State, they’re going to freeze out. Colder climates they might freeze out but if you’re in a temperament climate they do really well.

Monkey-puzzle trees are really slow growing. So they take years and years to get big. So you have to be very patient with them and plant them like we said in a good sunny spot with good drainage and good compost, good soil and that’s about all you do. Water them in the summer if it’s really hot and you live in a warmer area but you just plant them and enjoy them.
